Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
We offer a wide variety of professional development for teachers and support staff looking to improve their own classroom practice or to support the development of others.
National Professional Qualifications in Leadership
Beacon Academy Teaching School Alliance is delighted to be working with St Richard’s Catholic College/Rother Teaching School Alliance and Leadership CoLab at UCL Institute of Education to offer professional development opportunities for educational leaders.
Applications for two levels of National Professional Qualifications (NPQ) are now open:
- National Professional Qualification in Middle Leadership: NPQML – Leading a team
- National Professional Qualification in Senior Leadership: NPQSL – Leading across a school
NPQs will develop talented leaders from all backgrounds who can deliver educational excellence in a self-improving system and high-quality outcomes for students.
The programmes have been developed collaboratively between school leaders, UCL teaching staff and researchers and are built upon high-quality leadership practice, evidence and research. They offer a varied programme of study that enables participants to self-reflect and apply their learning in their own context.
Beacon Academy Teaching School Alliance and St Richard’s Catholic College/Rother Teaching School Alliance will run a joint cohort of Middle Leaders and Senior Leaders starting in November 2020.

Developing and Enhancing Professional Practice
Our CPD sessions are usually open to trainees, NQTs, recently qualified teachers and any colleagues who would like refresh or develop their practice. Once we are able to host these in school again, we will publish the full programme here.
Excellent Teaching Programme
The Excellent Teacher Programme (ETP) is a five week course that runs twice in every academic year at Beacon Academy. The programme brings together successful teachers who are keen to develop their practice further. Each session focuses on one or more of the Beacon Six Principles of Learning. Accessible, relevant and thought-provoking ideas from the best current educational writers and researchers are used as a springboard for planning exceptional teaching. Participants share and discuss their pedagogy in a supportive and highly motivational setting. Their feedback consistently reflects their enjoyment of the course and its positive impact on their planning, teaching and outcomes. If you are interested in participating please email teachingschool@beacon-academy.org.
